DENMARK’S NEW WORLD CUP JERSEY HONOURS THE ’92 TRIUMPH AND CELEBRATES TODAY’S STARS OF THE DANISH NATIONAL TEAM

June 26, 1992 will forever be printed in the memory of Danish football fans. Denmark made the impossible possible and became European champions with a 2-0 win against Germany.

New legends were born in one of the most iconic national team jerseys of all time, and to mark the 30th anniversary of the greatest triumph in Danish football, the new national team jersey for the upcoming World Cup has been designed with inspiration from the ‘92 jersey.

Today’s stars are named Simon Kjær, Christian Eriksen, Kasper Schmeichel and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, and the new jersey is also very much a tribute to these current Danish heroes.

The jersey is created by the Danish sportswear brand hummel and should not only be seen as a celebration of the ‘92 team, but rather as a symbol of a new era in Danish national team football.

“Although the jersey is a remake of the ‘92 kit and marks the 30th anniversary of the Euros success, we’re not heading for a nostalgic tribute of the old legends. We are going to the World Cup with one of the strongest Danish national teams in recent times, and therefore the jersey is also a symbol of the fact that tomorrow’s legends are born now. In 20-30 years, it will hopefully be the current national team players that we remember with the same legendary status as we do with the ‘92 team today,” says hummel CEO, Allan Vad Nielsen, and continues:

“We are incredibly proud of our current national team and their achievements both on and off the pitch. They have proven that we should not be afraid to dream big. Therefore, we also believe that we can help write some new history in Danish football - and together with the Danish national team, we dream of a World Cup trophy in December, which will make the jersey the object of a new generation of national team legends,” he concludes.

The new national team jersey has been created in close collaboration between hummel and DBU, and it is something that inspires great enthusiasm for DBU’s Managing Director, Jakob Jensen.

“Our overall mission is to unite and inspire the Danish population, and the men’s national team has done this several times in recent years and can do it again at the World Cup in a few months. The new national team jersey emphasises the great importance of the team and shows today’s stars who will be remembered for their great achievements in 20-30 years. We look forward to seeing the players in the jersey and to cheering them on to victory at the upcoming World Cup.”

In addition to the red home jersey, hummel and DBU have also unveiled a white away jersey and a black third jersey. The latter of the two will be worn by the players at Thursday’s Nations League clash against Croatia, while the home jersey will be in action for the first time for the match against France on 25 September at Parken Stadium.

The new national team jerseys are already available at landsholdsshoppen.dk, and later this autumn hummel will also launch a new fan collection ahead of the World Cup.
